Ligita Stramkale is an associate professor at the University of Latvia in the Faculty of Education
Sciences and Psychology. Since 2015, Ligita has been an expert in educational sciences at the
Latvian Council of Science. Since 2010, she has been an expert in music education at the State
Education Development Agency of the Republic of Latvia.
In 2004, Ligita received a doctoral degree in Educational Sciences (Dr. paed.) from the
University of Latvia. Since then, she has spent the last 20 years working in the fields of music
education and higher education. As an associate professor at the University of Latvia, Ligita has
carried out, developed and delivered more than 10 study courses. She works in 1st-level higher
professional education, bachelor’s and master’s study programmes.
Ligita has been involved as an expert or a participant in more than ten projects funded by the
European Commission and Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing (SAM). She was a lead expert
in the project Innovative, research-based study programme in the discipline of Education at the
University of Latvia.
In 2016, Ligita was a reviewer of scientific papers published in the University of Latvia, Vol.
811, Pedagogy and Teacher Education. Since 2020, she has also been one of the peer reviewers
of scientific papers submitted to Proceedings of Scientific Papers for the International Scientific
Conference of the University of Latvia, Human, Technologies and Quality of Education.
Ligita has more than 80 publications. Research fields: (1) Music education and arts education; (2)
Higher education; (3) Assessment and evaluation in education; (4) Gifted and talented children;
(5) Inclusion education. Ligita has presented research results in the field of music education at
over 50 international conferences, both in Latvia and abroad (in countries such as France, Italy,
the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Greece and others).
