Cristina Lupu is an independent singer-songwriter (guitar/vocals) based in Bucharest and angry love songs are her specialty. She began writing and performing songs in 2008, as part of a local, girls-only, folk band and later took part in The Voice of Romania, in 2015. She began as a self-taught musician and then topped that up with private guitar and singing lessons; between 2020-2022, she studied vocal jazz at the National University of Music in Bucharest.
Her debut album SWEET⋅AMNESIA was released November 2024, though most of its songs had already been heavily ‘tested out’ in live performances, at festivals such as Electric Castle, Waha, Femei pe Matasari and many others. The release of Sweet Amnesia was marked with a full-house, full band live show in Expirat Club, Bucharest, followed by a series of concerts in 8 other cities.
The project became known at first for Cristina’s intimate, heartfelt solo-performances and later evolved into a steady trio and sometimes a quartet or quintet, alongside a handful of talented musicians: Lucas Contreras (guitar, backing vocals), Cristi Florea (drums), Dimitrie Cristian (bass, piano), and sometimes Marina Arsene (backing vocals, flute).
